All trees are dug with Optimal Tree
Spades.  The Optimal spades have four
blades, not three like most other
spades.  The blades are curved, thus
corresponding with the natural growth
pattern of the roots.  They are capable
of getting the most possible quantity of
roots with the least amount of excess
soil.  This helps with survivability and
puts more trees on a truck to save you
freight.  We use three sizes, a Model
850, which will dig a 33” ball 23” deep.
Our medium size spade is a Model 1100,
which will dig up to a 46” ball 30” deep.
We use our two Bobcat skid steer
loaders, Model 873 and 963, on these
spades.  We have tracks for both so we
can keep going when the going gets
tough.  Our largest spade, a Model
1700, will dig a 70” ball 43” deep.  It is
mounted on a Dresser 200 track loader.
With these three spades, we are able to
dig trees from 5’ to 25’.

tied tightly around the stem of the tree to prevent
movement, which can separate the roots from the
soil during loading and transit.  Every tree is
carefully inspected before and after it is loaded.  If
there is a problem with a tree, the root ball, or
anything else, the tree stays here.  We don’t ship
trees with problems.  We always dig to the
“American Standard” or better.  We can oversize
the balls at your request but will not undersize.
